Table Lamps, explained

Bedside lamps for the bedroom

Choose a lamp with a soft, warm light that is easy to dim at night. A rechargeable cordless model works well when an outlet is hard to reach, and you can move it from nightstand to terrace or bookshelf without a cable.

Desk and living room lamps

On a desk, an adjustable lamp helps with reading and computer work. On a console, sideboard or side table, a decorative lamp adds a layer of ambient light that overhead fixtures can't provide.

Choosing the right size

As a guide, a bedside lamp should sit near eye level when you are seated in bed. Make sure the base fits comfortably on your table, with room left for your essentials.
